Family Life and Human Sexuality Parent Letter


Health classes are preparing to begin the Family Life and Human Sexuality unit. The curriculum that is taught is prescribed by the Maryland State Health Curriculum and COMAR 13A.04.18. By the end of this unit, students will be able to use human development knowledge, social skills, and health enhancing strategies to promote positive relationships and health growth and development throughout the life cycle. We encourage families to discuss information shared in class with your student.

Sexual Orientation and Identity

Sexually Explicit Media

Gender Identity and Expression

Harassment, Teasing, and Bullying

Sexual Health


If you do not want your student to participate in Family Life and Human Sexuality Education lessons and would like them to complete an alternative health education assignment, please contact your student’s teacher in writing to request opt-out permission.
